MaineHealth Department of Medical Education
Promoting a Culture of Lifelong Learning
Education is part of the fabric of MaineHealth, with a rich history dating back to the 1800’s. While the number of learners, the professions they represent, and the way we educate continue to change and evolve, one thing remains constant: teaching and learning are part of MaineHealth’s identity and values.
It is the goal of the Department of Medical Education to promote a learning health system through the support of lifelong learning, continuous improvement and education innovation. During the past year we had many exciting accomplishments and new initiatives. A few examples include:
- Accreditation of the first MaineHealth critical care advanced practice provider residency program
- Second annual Interprofessional Innovation in Education Awards, with three 2023 awardees
- National recognition of Dr. Jennifer Hayman and her team’s work to develop resources to address health and vaccine misinformation
- Growth of the simulation team
- Two statewide grants totaling more than $1.5 million to support the Maine health care workforce
Our 2023 annual report highlights these and other exciting projects and initiatives. Our stories show how:
- Our focus on inclusion has benefited our programs
- We are working to grow the health care workforce of tomorrow
- Educating and training MaineHealth care team members benefits patients and communities
- We are helping to advance MaineHealth as a learning health system
I am extremely proud of the work being done and I hope you will join me in celebrating these accomplishments through the stories shared here.
