Advancing Healthcare Through Education: Building the Health Care Workforce of Today and Beyond

Education is deeply woven into the mission and values of MaineHealth, forming the cornerstone of a thriving learning health system. The MaineHealth Department of Medical Education is central to MaineHealth’s efforts and commitment to fostering a culture of lifelong learning and excellence in healthcare. From innovative education programs and impactful partnerships to cutting-edge simulation and workforce initiatives, our work focuses on educating current and future health care providers while advancing health equity in the communities we serve.

In 2024, we celebrated numerous milestones, including:

  • Partnerships that expand health care access in rural areas
  • Groundbreaking advancements in learner evaluation through Objective Structured Clinical Evaluations (OSCEs)
  • Increased opportunities for interprofessional collaboration

Additionally, our engagement efforts, such as humanities programming and wellness initiatives, highlight the holistic approach we take toward educating and supporting our learners and health care team members.

Through a few select stories, we are excited to showcase how our focus on education strengthens clinical training, supports equity and inclusion, and fosters meaningful collaboration across MaineHealth and beyond. As we look to the future, these initiatives reflect our dedication to building a healthier tomorrow through education, innovation, and partnership.
